Rango Roadkill tells Roadkill that Terrarium is his pet Chameleon dropped from his car and ended up in the Mojave desert. Roadkill is astonished to discover that “Dirt” Dirt, one of the Old West neighborhood that is home to water, is believed be brought in by a mysterious ritual on Wednesdays. However, the water is distant. He wanders around the desert, not noticing any alternatives. As he wanders through the desert, he manages to avoid being consumed by a fierce red-tailed hawk before meeting Beans who is a desert Iguana that leads the iguana towards Dirt.
If asked about his identity when asked about his identity, the Chameleon informs the locals that he is an extremely tough drifter called Rango. He claims the gang he killed was feared known as the Jenkins Brothers with one bullet. While he fights Gila criminal known as Bad Bill, he avoids firing due to the fact that Bill is scared of the returning Hawk. Rango is chased by the hawk until he reaches an unoccupied water tower which Rango mistakenly knocks over and results in it crushing the hawk to death. Rango is appointed the town’s new sheriff by the town’s desert tortoise mayor to bring off the hawk. The residents are concerned about the legendary gun-toting Rattlesnake Jake who is terrified of predators like the hawk could return after the hawk is gone.
Rango finds that Dirt is in the middle of a drought, and that there is no water source. A water cooler is empty inside the town’s bank. The suspicious Beans insists that Rango assist the bank robbers. It is discovered that the banker had drowned. Rango and his gang follows his body down a canyon to find their hideout. Balthazar’s bat-riding family members are the ones who fight for the water bottle. They discover the water bottle is empty.
Rango is interested in knowing more details about the mayor’s decision regarding Dirt’s purchase. He denies any wrongdoing and tells Rango that he is planning to build a new city on the land. Then he summons Rattlesnake Jake and chases Rango out of town and makes him admit that he had been lying to the locals. Rango, dejected, returns to the road. He drives to the other side of the road before getting snoozed and then being taken by a handful of pillbugs. Rango awakes the following day and is greeted by the Spirit of the West. The spirit appears as an old man with no name. He speaks to Rango about the actions he took to the Dirt people and he is instructed by the spirit that he needs to return to correct the situation. The spirit informs the man that “No man is able to walk through his own tale “.
With the help of Roadkill and mystical moving yuccas, Rango discovers an emergency shut-off valve inside a water pipeline to Las Vegas, Nevada, that the city’s mayor has been manipulating to cause the water shortage in order to buy the land. The newly re-energized Rango is back in Dirt to take on Jake to a continual battle and also a detour order for the yuccas change the valve of the pipeline to return the water back to the town and allow Rango to make his position evident to Jake. But, the mayor forces Rango to concede to the threat of Beans his life, before they are transferred to the vault of the bank to be drowned. He then prepares to shoot Jake with his gun in the hopes of killing Jake along with the other members of the Old West, but Rango has only gotten one shot which he makes use of to smash the vault’s glass door, liberating himself as well as Beans. Incredulous, Jake salutes Rango for proving his heroism before pulling the mayor out of town to kill him for deceiving the mayor. Rango is a true hero and the residents of Dirt rejoice at the restoration of their water supply.
